There are various types of languages around the world. Language is essential in order to be able to communicate with those around us. It allows us to gain knowledge and information from the society around us. Language also shapes our social identity and plays a great role in the way individuals think. The Standford University online magazine written by a Standford researcher, it talks about how language is able to shape how we think. The Standford researcher uses facts and information from Lera Boroditsky who has done research on multiple different languages.  Lera Boroditsky in all of her research has one particular question which is if language shapes the way that we think? She focuses primarily on different people who speak different languages. These include Spanish speakers popping balloons, Russian speakers sorting shades of blue, and Australian kids who had to avoid a crocodile. With this information, Boroditsky wanted to find differences between the cultures and how t...

The mother tries to get Raina to focus on specific objects on their walk. “See the butterfly,” “look over in that tree.” The mother is try to give visuals for Raina to focus on and is giving her guidance throughout.  Raina is five years old so her language stage would be preoperational. In Jean Piaget's theory, children aged from two to five years old understand the world around them through certain language and images in their heads. Children are able to play however, can’t understand someone else's point of view or logic and comprehension of a certain situation. This explains why Raina was so fascinated with t...

The famous entrepreneur, Richard Branson’s purpose of the text is to write an open-letter to anyone who may be reading. He talks about happiness and his own first hand experiences in contrast with society's popular beliefs. Due to him giving his own account of happiness the text throughout is very formal and has personal references to the writer’s own life. This makes the reader be able to connect to the information in the letter much more closely and create imagery of the scenes being described.  In the beginning of the letter, the writer starts off in second person perspective and gives a piece of advice which is targeted towards the reader. The writers does this by using phrases such as “help you” and “be yours.” The reader’s attention is then immediately grabbed and the letter feels like it was written to them by someone personal or close to them. Paper 1, Question 1

04/19/22 Dear Mr. President,  Recently I have been informed about the fire at the Notre Dame Cathedral. When I heard about this information I couldn’t believe it! This situation has brought attention to not only me but throughout the whole world and is a catastrophic event that will be remembered. This topic has been very relevant through social media and is a tragedy of one of the world’s most crucial landmarks. Unbelievably it only took three minutes to get everyone’s attention. Thankfully, many generous celebrities and billionaires have helped to donate more than enough money to pay off the costs of the structural repairs.  While the fire at the cathedral only took three minutes to get the world’s attention, I believe there is another issue that is just as urgent. For three weeks, the largest tropical rainforest in the world has been getting destroyed. This amazon provides 20% of the oxygen in the atmosphere. It also is a vital role in slowing global warming since it...

Paper 3 Question 1

Text A is an excerpt from Advice to a Young Man upon first going to Oxford: In Ten Letters, From an Uncle to his Nephew, by Edward Bernes. The text was written in 1832, so it is older English. Since the uncle, Berens, is speaking to his nephew the text would then be written in the first-person point of view. The entire text is structured very thoroughly and is thought through. Beren wrote his text very personally and then, therefore, describes all the feelings he has towards his nephew. He uses phrases such as: “This feeling” “feel for you” and “their home” to create a more descriptive and conversational tone while reading. The uncle wants his nephew to feel exactly how he is. Therefore text a would be more personal.       In-text a, there is some language and phrases used that are old and outdated. These then include “conceited coxcomb” and “apt.” Conceited coxcomb would then be someone conceited, foolish, and or pretentious. The ‘coxcomb’ is an old English phrase....

Paper 2 Section B

Recently, at school, I have heard a lot of classmates talking about a new theme park that just opened up in Fort Myers. The theme park is called “Rock N’ Ridin” and is full of off-the-charts crazy coasters. Apparently, this theme park is rumored to have the most “insane rides that are better than both DisneyWorld and Universal combined.” So, last Friday night my friends and I decided to test it out and see if it was just as good as everyone makes it out to be. We then traveled thirty minutes up to Fort Myers, and when we arrived at our surprise the theme park was located right along the beach. The size of the park was massive and stretched along the coast for miles! I wondered how they could fit so many activities and people in such a small space. There was a crowd full of people waiting to get in and trying to purchase their wristbands. The cost of one wristband and a meal plan was about $50 dollars but believe me, it was well worth the price.     ...
